The Altschuler-Caplan Ensemble was formed in Spring 2008, by brothers Emil (violin) and Josiah (cello) Altschuler, and guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan. Having vastly disparate musical interests and influences, they skillfully arrange music from different genres into a new breed of modern virtuoso performance.

Emil, a graduate of Juilliard and Yale, is brilliant both in his effortless speed, and capacity for summoning a beautiful voice from his violin. He is quoted, by Erick Friedman, to be "...a very gifted violinist who possesses the talent and capability to become a truly outstanding violinist of his generation... and sound and accuracy of intonation that are truly extraordinary." Aaron's enthusiasm for new music is intoxicating, and brings unexplored sonorities and phrasing to the guitar. "A riveting artist" (Washington Post), Aaron has premiered over a dozen new solo and ensemble compositions, many of which are dedicated to him by such composers as Daniel Pinkham, John McDonald, Kevin Siegfried, Ryan Vigil, Lior Navok, José Elizondo, & Kurt Erickson. Aaron is a graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston, and currently teaches at The New School of Music, in Cambridge, MA. Josiah, a former computational biologist at Harvard University, brings a unique gothic American Primitive folk influence: plucking the cello over the knee in a guitar-like style, he fuses a raw, primal energy with a truly uniquely adapted finger-style technique.
