Biography

It's hard to write about yourself. But the job requires it.

So, let's see.

I grew up in western New York State on a bunch of farmland, and spent most of my time not enjoying the flora and fauna, but up in my room, in front of a tiny electronic keyboard. It was the best.

I went to college in Ithaca, New York for a year, to study classical voice (wobbly opera singing), but decided to move to New York City after a year because I was tired of skiing to and from my classes.

In New York City I went to NYU and got an obligatory college degree in vocal performance (nasal musical theater singing... (+) expand

I was looking up the lyrics to Steven, and one of the comments alluded to Morrissey. It just clicked.

You are quite welcome! I was going to say I was looking forward to your next uploads, but it looks like they're already here. :)

Virtual cupcakes are almost as good.

Thanks - I've seen Kate Klim play a couple of times. I enjoyed it and she's got a great sense of humor. A lot of the music there is guitar based so it's nice to see pianists play there. I'll keep an eye out for the other two - the names definitely sound familiar!

Probably the only picture I am in that I actually like. It's my pleasure to dish out some bumps to deserving artists. Thanks for the music.

Hey just out of curiosity, who do you know that plays at Passim? I'm always looking to hear performers I've never heard before.

silkworm (level 18) wrote:

In fact, when I played The Commuter, my first thought was, "that sounds like something I'd hear at Passim."

silkworm (level 18) wrote:

You'll get there soon, I'm sure. I've been going to Passim for 15+ years, and one of the coolest things about it is the up-and-coming musicians that are always featured as opening performers. If you know anyone who plays there, try to open for them when you feel like you're ready. From the tracks that I've heard here, you'd *more* than hold your own.

If you ever leave NYC to play let us here at t61 know -- love to see you live (think Minneapolis... but maybe in the summer months...)

I see more bumps in your future. Music is the cure.

silkworm (level 18) wrote:

No worries - this is indeed a very supportive place, and the individuals I've met really do support a broad spectrum of music styles, even if collectively the bumps don't always reflect it yet. I think it's great that you're plying your trade in the crucible of NYC - if you can make it there, you can indeed make it anywhere.

Have you ever played Club Passim, near Boston? Small room (150?), but incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowds, and history everywhere you turn. Even if you're already playing bigger places, it's a place you'll want to play eventually.
