COLOUR REVOLT

Oxford, MI

about +
Colour Revolt’s members first played together while they were college students in Oxford and Jackson under the name Fletcher. They take their current name from Edwin Abbott’s mathematical novel, Flatland. The group had intended to record their first EP, s follow up their previous full-lenght “Friends Don’t Speak” under the band name Fletcher, in Mississippi in August of 2005, but Hurricane Katrina interrupted the recording session, and so they recorded it in the house of local label Esperanza Plantation’s owner.

The self-titled EP came out in December of 2005; following this the group toured with Brand New and signed to Interscope Records, who re-released the EP on their subsidiary Tiny Evil in October 2006.

The group has also performed at SXSW and toured with Dinosaur Jr., Black Lips, Okkervil River, Menomena, Explosions in the Sky, Malajube, and Manchester Orchestra.

They then signed with Fat Possum Records; their full-length debut, Plunder, Beg and Curse, produced by Clay Jones, which was released on April 1, 2008.

Colour Revolt has earned a reputation for giving very energetic live shows, where its members make use of a variety of instruments, including electric guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, harmonica, and tambourine. Jesse, Jimmy, and Sean are all accomplished guitar players, and each performer brings a unique perspective to the craft. Jimmy, in particular, has been described as a “feral beast” when it comes to shredding the six string, and has a full arsenal of effects at his disposal.

As of March, 2006, all of Colour Revolt’s members live in Oxford, MS.

At a concert at W.C. Don’s (Jackson, MS) in March, 2006, Sean referred to Jesse as the ‘monitor king’. At the conclusion of the show, the drummer, Len Clark, stood up on the drum stool and did an aerial somersault into his drum set, knocking the crash cymbal onto the floor. By this time, several audience members had stormed the stage. One of them was local artist/musician Dent May, who somehow managed to grab hold of Jimmy’s guitar and was waving it around as if he were going to smash it.

In February 2007 Drew Mellon was replaced by bassist Patrick Addison, who previously played with the aforementioned Dent May as part of The Rockwells.
