David Ell's debut album, Wreckingball, is full of dark, brooding and powerful songs that are made up of a subtle arrangement of guitar and piano lead melodies. Themes that are reflected in the songs are loss of innocence, faith and love.
According to recent album reviews this album is ”epic”, ” a big big sound” and as a songwriter David Ell ”draws favourable comparison with great songwriters like U2 and Radiohead”.
David Ell also plays and sings as part of up and coming Glasgow band Echofires - recent gigs at Oran Mor, the Ferry, O2 Academy have seen the band pick up fans with their dynamic on stage performances driven by heartfelt melodies and harmonies, soaring guitars and intricate bass and drum arrangements.
Not wanting to be be pigeon holed solely as a singer songwriter and performer, David Ell has just released as his second album, a long player of instrumetal pieces entitled Dance of the Furies fusing the finest traditions of classical, pop, rock and electronica. As a composer of piano and music scores for use in films and TV David shows the versatility that make him one of the most interesting musicians around.
David is currently working on an acoustic EP of new songs slated for release in 2012.
