Dawn Kinnard grew up in Pennsylvania, as the wayward daughter of a Baptist preacher, and specialises in dark ballads. A regular in the church choir, she was inspired by early blues, country and gospel and learned to play guitar at 16, when she became obsessed with Elvis. Kinnard’s husky singing voice has been compared to Cat Power, Shelby Lynne, Billie Holiday, Lucinda Williams and Nina Persson of The Cardigans.
