Somewhere in the vastness of space on a distant planet, we are being watched. Eyes and ears, unscrupulous and virginal to all that is ‘Rock’ pay close attention to the tirade of warped political views, unofficial rumors and nonsensical bigotry, spewed forth by the 6 billion inhabitants of the lonely planet ‘Earth’. Alien hands lay poised, composed, ready on command to wreak havoc, destroy worlds, or at the very least abduct one of these squishy bipeds and probe it (no one is quite sure why). When suddenly, amidst the battering of broken hearts and unspoken lies comes a beat, solid and driving. It fills the room like an inferno, infecting everything it touches. Laying waste to common sense and serenity and taking a seemingly calm and steady control over the emotions. Extraterrestrial hands start to move. Muscles twitch as the music enters the vein, swallowing the senses whole and complete. In a moment of clarity, hostilities cease and ill feelings are assuaged. Finally we have found an avenue of communication, the bridge of misapprehension has been crossed and through the muse we find understanding.
Somewhere in the vastness of space, alien beings are rockin’ the fuck out. Sleep well tonight kids, for the world is safe in our hands.
And so goes the story of the 6 members of the Melbourne based band ‘Into the Night’. From their cave in the outer eastern suburbs, they sit and write. They know that they write not for themselves, but for the continued existence of humanity. They write for the greater good, to soothe the savage beast. They fight without guns or bullets, without sword or dagger. They fight with the power of the almighty axe. The axe which was passed down by the very Gods who would pledge to destroy it, lest it fall into the wrong hands. They fight with lyric, refined into ear injections of joy which makes you bleed and yearn for more. They fight with beat, hundreds of thousands of years of inbred love for the need to move to the music and scream “We will not go quietly Into the Night!”
Driving percussion, chunky guitars, melodic keys, heart wrenching bass and sinuous vocals. Each song diverse in all its glory, as changing as the sands of time and unique as the snowflake. When ‘Into the Night’ begin to play you may as well sit up and listen, because you are going to have to eventually anyway.
‘Into the Night’ began its journey to auditory systems as an equal thirds venture by Benjamin’ (guitars), Jules (percussion) and Pat (vocals), in the early stages of 2005, and mostly by accident. The unique turn of events which brought them together could only be described as divine intervention, and the then trio decided not to waste the opportunity. Within months the three had a repertoire of close to 15 songs and had already begun production on their first EP ‘Parting Ways’.
Yet, between the musical talent cascading like sweat rain down the walls of their acoustically challenging basement setup, and the crazy old coot across the road, who seemed to be continually offended by being able to hear their expression of art from his kitchen, it soon became apparent that the boys needed more. Enter stage left, Lee (bass). Enter stage right, Waz (guitars). Our threesome became a fivesome, and with that they launched themselves kicking and screaming into the world. Finding a sound-proofed studio so they could blow the shit out of themselves with pure, unforgiving ampage, they began furiously composing music. It truly was like sex for the ears.
Some time after the completion of the ‘Parting Ways’ EP, it was decided once again that it was about time to return to the studio, this time however, they were armed with a full band. And so, production began on the second EP, ‘The Art of Honesty’. The response they got from this CD was overwhelming, ‘The Art of Honesty’ was instrumental in securing a large percentage of their ever increasing fan base and their growth as a band was extremely evident from their previous recordings. Yet more than anything, it gave them direction. They were now confident in their abilities as musicians, and they knew then that they had something unique, something they could get out there, and most importantly something people wanted to hear. Here was a band that wasn’t going to accept getting lost in the crowd.
Yet, for all their weekly sacrificial ear bleedings, finger blisters, chafing, sweating and crying, they still needed something more. Enter centre stage, Andy (keys/piano). With fingers of fire which were bestowed upon him as payment for selling his soul to the devil and the musical prowess of Apollo himself, Andy completed the sextuplet. Now all the band needed was to prepare the world to get their faces melted off by cold, hard, unadulterated ROCK.
As the saga continued, born from the wells of eternal delight, Benjamin’ built a recording and rehearsal studio to support the bands increasing addiction to record. This gave them the control to hone their skills and delve further into the realm of their imaginations to achieve exceptional results.
Midway through the recording of their debut album, the band was contacted by Sylvia Massy (Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Johnny Cash), a legendary producer from the small town of Weed, California. Sylvia offered her Midas touch, and along with mixing extraordinaire Rich Veltrop (System of a Down, Slayer, RATM) they encrust their talents into what promises to be one of the stand out rock albums of 2009.
It’s been four years since the conception of ‘Into the Night’, and having played an impressive array of live shows, releasing an EP, and now with the completion of their debut album, the six musicians are coming into 2009 with their eyes, hearts and minds, wide open. They want their music heard, and will stop at nothing to make it happen.
