Playing with Lawrence Arabia and My Girlfriend Is Better Than Yours

For those who may have missed it, you can still explore The Fanfarlo Advent Calendar at fanfarlo.com/advent. A few highlights worth of revisiting include a performance of ‘I’m A Pilot’ in a junkyard and a cover of Tom Waits’ ‘In The Neighbourhood’ which you can watch in the Video section.

Another favourite from the advent calendar was a poem written by Thax Douglas from Austin. He’s a bit of a local legend and wrote a poem about Fanfarlo on the spot and then read it on stage in Austin before the band performed.

Named after a Baudelaire novella, Fanfarlo have previously released 5 singles on some of the UK’s most credible single labels, including Moshi Moshi, Fortuna Pop & White Heat. Centered around writer and vocalist Simon Balthazar (vocals, guitar, keys, mandolin, sax, glock), who grew up in suburban Gothenburg, the group is completed with Cathy Lucas (violin, keyboard, vox), Justin Finch (bass), Amos Memon (drums) & Leon Beckenham (trumpet / keyboard), and they're currently based in London.

Fanfarlo release their 11-track debut album "Reservoir" in September 2009,produced and recorded by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol) at his home studio in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Initially made available as a download for $1 earlier in the year via the band's website, and a very limited & lavishly packaged CD box exclusively through the Rough Trade shops in the UK, where it sold in less than a week, 'Reservoir' will now receive a traditional release.

Great fun show in Austin last night! When the horn kicked in during "Finish Line", I got goosebumps! I just wanted you to keep oh playing forever... hence my suggestion to just start at the beginning and do the set all over again!
