ManOrMouse? is all about running the risk of simply being yourself andreaping the rewards. And, as debut album ‘The Learning Curve’ proves, it’s a winning formula.
‘Like Bowie busking on the Pavement outside the Roxy (as Benny Hill passes round the hat) ‘
Recorded and co-produced by Matt Sime (Feeder, Moloko, Dirty Pretty Things), and mastered by Giles Martin at Abbey Road, The Learning Curve’s twelve alt-indie pop tracks can be crushing, pretty, deliriousand majestic - often at the same time. But above all, they’re thrillingly individual thanks to their charismatic instrumentations, the unhinged intimacy of their exceptional lyrics and the
idiosyncratic tunes themselves. These are the best kind of songs - the kind that sound surprising and familiar all at once.
‘Howling mad! I love it.’ - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
ManOrMouse? is Billy Mowbray. Formerly an in house composer at Sir George Martin’s publishing company (GMM Ltd), multi-instrumentalist
Mowbray started recording his songs when he realised no-one was playing them as well as he and his friends could. On The Learning Curve he is joined by drummers Mark Richardson (Skunk Anansie, Little Angels) and Jonathan Atkinson (The Emotions, Rick Astley), guitarist Dean Tidey (Feeder, Ozzy Osbourne), and bass player Rick Barber (Scylla, Antacid).
‘A beautiful shambles.’ - Chris Sheldon, producer (Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Therapy?)
For the past six months, ManOrMouse? has been building an avid fanbase through regular gigs in and around London, international radio plays
and a comprehensive online presence. The band’s website - WeAreManOrMouse.com - is an ever-growing treasure trove of freebies, videos, album tracks, short stories, lyrics and weekly blogs. A new
demo track is posted onto the site EACH WEEK so that fans can decide which songs get recorded properly for the next album.
