Robin grew up on the Hebridean island of Islay where he spent a lot of time walking around on deserted beaches. He also used to go to Glasgow once a year and buy many 2nd hand records.
His interests in 60's psychedelia, African hi-life and Davy Graham's folk styles influenced an eclectic fingerpicking guitar style that is probably best appreciated in
ZUBA, where the other band members are not too critical of the fact that Robin plays the guitar a lot, and most of the tunes that he likes to play have many notes in them. One of the great advantages of fingerpicking, Robin says, is that it is possible to play a lot of notes without anyone noticing.
Robin previously toured around France and Italy with Runt O The Litter and Tannas, and spent a great deal of time playing slide guitar in the rain in Scottish cities at night. He also played in the Celtic-folk ensembles, Eleven Elves and Galleon's Lap.
Robin likes olives and owls, but isn't so keen on jam. He reckons that conserve is tastier, but is unsure how to pronounce it. Robin is 6' 3" tall and looks a little like Jesus, although it is not documented whether Jesus had very much to say about owls.
