NIKKIMYNIKKI
Singer/ Songwriter, NikkiMyNikki, was born Nikki Lynne Hill on Nov 2.
In the “818”, CA. As a child she was a one of the only honor students that participated in both the academic and performing arts programs at school. She took to practicing her favorite instrument the violin. When she reached Sepulveda Middle School, Nikki entered the drama class 6th period and became interested in the dance program which she attended everyday after school. By the time she reached seventh grade she was head of her drama class and was given the opportunity to be one of the youngest choreographers for all the live showcases at school, in her time. In 2005, Nikki was accepted into the Cleveland Humanities Magnet Program where all her studies would be that of a college student. Although she was a performing arts student she also made sure to maintain her history of academic achievement. Freshman year, instead of her partaking in the theatre program at school, she decided to join the Cleveland Cavalier cheerleading team. Considered to be the best squad in the entire valley, Nikki wanted to test her choreography/ dance skill by seeing if she had what it took to make the squad. Successfully making the team she became one of the most popular students on campus.
She then became apart of many outreach programs for African American students one being “The Village”. During one of The Village assemblies she was given the opportunity to sing in front of the entire 9- 12th grade African American students at Cleveland. It was then that she realized besides dance what one of her natural abilities was. Singing was something she did at ease, not like dance where it may have taken her a little it more thought, that’s when she realized what she truly wanted to be. Nikki volunteered her talents at any and every show at school from then on out, steadily trying to get feed back from her fellow peers. At 15, she received a scholarship to work a two week program with the well known vocal coach Nicholas Cooper. She spent two weeks working with Mr. Cooper and as she says, “It was the best and scariest two weeks of my life. I didn’t know if he would like my voice or not”. When she graduated from high school Nikki decided that she wanted to take sometime off from school to further pursue this gift she had as a female vocalist. She began working with Carl Graves at Sterling Silver productions recording music and writing. Nikki joined the choir at her church Lake View Terrace American Baptist Church where she as able to expand her vocals from a behind the scenes stand point. It was there that a man told her she stood out as a leader, that she was capable of going to the next level if she could work with him one day, Bro Benjamin Wright then became her mentor. With both the music she’s done with Sterling Silver Productions and the fatherly love and teaching from Benjamin Wright she is prepared to go to the next level. “When listening to my music you’ll find that I am a very versatile artist because I can and do it all. If you had to put me in a specific category it would be an eclectic category. I like all genres of music from R&B;, Hip Hop, soft rock, rock, techno, dance/electronic, throwbacks, gospel to alternative and contemporary. I truly believe that in today’s music many have forgotten what the art of music really stands for, I consider myself and my music to be the symbol for what music really is.”
