Portmanteaux is a 4-piece Melbourne band consisting of Nick Allen (bass), Mick Frawley (drums), Henry Jackson (guitars), and Steve Malkin (keyboards). Their music is a grab-bag of funk, soul, rhythm & blues, Latin, world and melodic rock music. It is an all-instrumental band, with classic guitar and Hammond organ melody leads and improvisations played over an “in the pocket” rhythm section. Portmanteaux have completed 2 CDs to date: the first a six-track EP ‘General Eclectic’ (2005) which received a positive review from Al Hensley in Rhythms Magazine. They have now released a 13-track all instrumental CD entitled ‘Five Ways Home’.
