From the snow-capped mountains of North America, the sub tropical climes of South East Queensland and the remote fringes of Western Australia comes Melbourne based band Son Hawk with songs evoking imagery and feelings familiar to us all.
Like turning the dial on AM radio - it's a passing nod to the 70s with it's compelling melodic narratives, sometimes melancholic and haunting, sometimes driving and epic with lyrics that deal with sinister purposes, the roll of the dice, the elements, love, loss and redemption.
Not afraid to follow their instincts and serve the songs, Son Hawk delivers sweet psych-folk stylings on 'Lemon Tree', epic singalongs with a ragged choir of spirited harmonies and dense instrumentation on 'Take them to the Sea', moody and overdriven guitars on 'Wishing Well' and memorable country-tinged laments with 'Misbuilt House'.
It will want to make you jump in an old Valiant, roll another joint and hit the transcendental highway.
SON HAWK's first EP is available now.
