THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION

Wellington, New Zealand

about +
Founded by Conrad Wedde, Samuel Flynn Scott, and Luke Buda in 1997 while students at Wellington High School, they were later joined by Warner Emery (bass guitar, vocals), Richie Singleton (drums) and Will Rickets (percussion. keys). The band gets their name from a fictional organization from the TV show MacGyver.

Gliding effortlessly between infectious guitar pop, languid psychedelia, Spector-esque harmonies, delirious prog rock and sad-eyed piano ballads, The Phoenix Foundation produce music that reveals itself in waves, and takes the listener into a candy-coloured wonderland.

In 2007, the band wrote and performed the soundtrack to the quirky indie film Eagle Vs Shark, which starred Conchords comic Jemaine Clement, who like his comedy partner Bret is a long-time friend of the band’s.

Flight Of The Conchords aren’t the only NZ celebrities to pledge their support for the band. Crowded House and Split Enz man Neil Finn has said of the band's latest relase Happy Ending: “This record is like the beautiful feeling of falling asleep in a hammock out the back of a faded old beach house and dreaming of epic vistas and love affairs… a beautiful record indeed.”
