The Pink Spiders is an American glam punk band that take influence from punk rock, power pop, and soul music. Formed in 2002, the band is from Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The band consists of Matt Friction (lead guitar and vocals), Joe Reilly (guitar and vocals) and Raf Cevallos (keyboards, vocals, and percussion). Because of unknown circumstances, founding bassist Jon Decious and founding drummer Bob Ferrari were fired from the band in mid-2008. Because of this, many fans are divided in their further support of the band.
Matt and Jon Decious (ex-bassist) stormed the Nashville music scene in 2001. Matt had his hit band Silent Friction, and when SF broke up they remade musical connection with Bob Ferrari (ex-drummer) to form The Pink Spiders in late 2002, and by January of 2004, the band recorded their first EP, called The Pink Spiders are Taking Over!. They signed with CI Records in the summer of 2004. A mere three months after their EP was released, several major-label offers were on the table, and, in April of 2005, the band signed with Geffen Records. The Pink Spiders have since been named as one of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands you need to know in 2006.”
The Pink Spiders released their major label debut on August 1st, 2006, entitled Teenage Graffiti. The first single, Little Razorblade, debuted on MTV’s Total Request Live as a premiere.
They have been known for their catchy tunes and bad attitudes, and also for wearing pink. They have shouted things to the crowds such as ‘We’re The Pink Spiders, and you’re not.’
But, beneath that brash exterior they love their fans.
“Our fans are like an addiction.”-Matt Friction.
The Pink Spiders have already recorded their third studio album Sweat It Out, which was expected to be released in Spring 2008, according to their official MySpace. However, the release date was moved to September 23, 2008, following the release of the video for the first single, “Gimme Chemicals.”
