Amurekimuri is a young band consisting of experienced musicians. Creative people from several already known projects decided to gather and try on some new musical forms. Common interests in music and eagerness to experiment united the members of the bands that work with Odessa independent record label Cardiowave (Legendarnie Plastilinovie Nogi, The Klukvins and the most well-known group of the label — Flёur).

The history of Amurekimuri dates back to 2006 when after one of the friendly meetings friends and like-minded musicians picked up their instruments and started improvising.

Elena speaks:

«At first it was just a pleasant pastime in a close circle of friends, improvisation, co-creation, where everyone could express oneself. Moreover there was something trancelike in it: we could play some theme for hours, being completely immersed in it and thus setting our mind free and bringing something innermost, dormant in all of us to the surface. Generally speaking, we didn’t aspire to something — we were simply having fun not thinking over the result. It lasted until we were told that this creative work deserves attention.»

Dmitry Vekov — the art director of music label Cardiowave, author and presenter of Atmosphere radio programme, a person with a great musical flair was present at every gig. It was he who once insisted that musicians think up the name and on the basis of their experiments prepare a serious concert program. Thus the new band was born.

The first performance of Amurekimuri took place on 7th April in the Odessa Exit club. Later the band played in Moscow and St. Petersburg as part of the Interference festival, another ‘brainchild’ of label Cardiowave. It took four long years for the group, already rich in fans and material to release this album.

Dmitry Vekov:

«I understood that if we do not record the album now, this could never happen as we've already started working on it but didn't succeed. We even thought of renaming the band to ‘The Losers’. It would be terribly unfair to such a beautiful music not to record an album. So it was now or never.»

The album was recorded and mixed from April till August 2010 on Veseliy Veter recording studio in Odessa (Sound producer — Alexey Nagornykh). Certain tracks were sent to the studio over the Internet. They were recorded by the newest member of Amurekimuri — Pavel Golubovski, who is a member of an electronic music duo Elektroherd.

Thanks to originality and self-devotion of all participants the self-titled debut of Amurekimuri, consisting of 16 tracks turned out very diverse, but both melodious and enigmatic. It seems as though gloomy melancholic chords of Alexey Dovgalyov and Andrey Basov accompanied by the rhythmic scenes of Alexey Tkachevsky and defenceless, fragile and delicate voice of Elena Voynarovskaya envelop the listener and prompt to empathize. This musical basis is perfectly supplemented with timeless treasures written by the English Romantic poets (William Blake, John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley).

Elena:

«We even had the idea to give up lyrics and express our emotions only by means of melody, intonation, timbre as music is completely self-sufficient. This is the language that is understandable to everyone. Nevertheless we wanted to voice some things and feelings with words.»

Some songs are translated into English and set to music poems by Elena Voynarovskaya but the lyrics of ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose You’ song belongs to the bass guitar player — Alexey Dovgalyov.

Independent romantic rock music, surrounded and illuminated by the rays of ethereal, enveloped in the haze of shoegaze, and extended by mysterious rhythms of new wave create the musical basis of the album. And this versatile ensemble is harmoniously supplemented with ringing from the reverberation and fuzzy due to the multiple delay guitars, fabulous synth parts, bracing calls of a bugle, piano tinges and psychedelic interludes. Whispers and movie quotes can be heard in several tracks. A child's voice belongs to the son of the guitarist Andrey Basov — the four-year-old Egor, who was born almost on the same day with the band. According to Dmitry Vekov, to whom belongs the major part of the ideas all these unusual sounds is an attempt to capture the mix of night visions.

«This modest work is our gratitude and tribute to all true Poets, to all true Romantics that have ever lived on Earth.»
