CHRIS LIMA

Vancouver, BC

about +
From his 14+ years of performing at some of the West coast's most legendary club nights and events to managing two world renowned record stores, Chris Lima has been passionate and driven since he had first laid his hands on a turntable and a mixer. Whether he is in the studio collaborating with his peers or crossing borders to please the masses with his turntable trickery, he is always willing to share his love of music with anyone who is willing to listen. And while his shows are as entertaining to watch as they are to listen to it didn't take very long for peoples ears to perk up to his unique studio creations. His Clash and Beatles edits were only the beginning of the buzz. Now he has DJ's from Ibiza to San Francisco, Mexico to Philly dropping his tracks and asking him to simply keep those beats coming.

His sound and DJ sets are not that easy to generalize as he draws from so many different influences and styles. From the forward thinking mentality and sounds of Electronic music to the party rocking vibe of old school Hip Hop. The infectious rhythms of Brazilian and Afro-Funk to those late night tracks that make you sweat, simply put Chris Lima blurs the lines of what some might refer to as "Dance Music". But he's not the type to settle on one particular style as he's always exploring new directions be it in the studio or on the cross fader. There's certain a rawness to his style of music that people just can't help but get into and his skills on the turntables have left crowds scratching their heads and filling dance floors from coast to coast.

"…I'm really not one of those producer/DJ types who'd rather stand hidden behind a stack of gear in a dark corner of a club simply playing track after track as opposed to being front and center and engaging the audience. That's not my style at all. If I'm not up there having a good time chances are those who are listening aren't either. Whether I'm DJing or playing live, in a big venue or in a more chill and intimate setting, I see it as a privilege and the crowd deserves everything I can give them. I love to be active while on stage and put on a show and have fun. Entertain a little. I think that's a crucial factor that a lot of DJ's and producers out there lack, don't know much about or have simply forgotten. And it's pretty sad that there are some people out there who might think that's what DJ's or people who produce and perform electronic based music are all about. I hope that those same people can come see and hear me play one day so I can alter their perception a little bit." C. Lima 2008
