This band, Dabe & His Good Buds (DHGB), is total radico. It wasn’t always this way, though.
DHGB met in the small town of Haliburton, Ontario. Bonded through a commonality that was their love of life and ska, they met as often as they could to play beautiful music together in an empty church sanctuary. The music they created was largely unfocused and acted as more of a release for all of their pishako. Since many of the members of the crew didn’t live in Haliburton, these sessions of musical happiness didn’t happen as often as DHGB would have liked.
Approaching the Christmas season of 2007, one of the band members, Chris Postill, grew increasingly restless and told Dabe that when the band got together over the holidays for their semi-annual ska sensation, he would love to actually focus and record an honest-to-goodness ska album, something that would express the lifeforce, and something that DHGB could take with them into the coming years as a memento of their happiness. As an experienced musical craftsman, Chris knew that such an undertaking would require far more effort from DHGB. But they were all willing.
Night after night, Dabe & His Good Buds practised songs and worked over technical details, pouring into their music a new focus. Actual songs were created that weren’t just endless jam sessions. In the space of two weeks, DHGB created and recorded a 16 track debut album, filled to the brim and overflowing with the lifeforce. Their enthusiastic love of ska paid off, and they now have an album to share with the rest of the world, because they are not selfish!
After Christmas, the band parted ways once again, to return to the dreary reality of their lives. But now they have this album, and you can have it too!
