A published award-winning music producer, world-travelled DJ & renowned netradio station owner; Hali has played a large role in exposing contemporary underground dance music to the masses. As an accomplished DJ/producer, he has performed across North America, Europe & Asia to packed venues & large festivals, receiving high praise in many well-respected music industry publications & with partygoers alike. He has also founded internationally renowned & award-winning organizations promoting Electronic Dance Music such as Netmusique & Poundhouse.
In 1995, Hali received minor notoriety when his project ATD became, arguably, the world's first to receive a recording contract via the Internet, as reported in Eye Magazine. He went on to produce numerous underground releases including "Hypocrisy" which garnered a number 1 spot on college radio dance charts in that same year. In September 1998, he received recognition by being awarded 'Editor's Pick' in Future Music magazine and has built an intensive discography with appearances on dozens of underground dance music CD compilations. Over the following years, his production for top leading-edge underground dance music labels, including Talla 2XLC's Music Research Germany, received critical acclaim in many respected music industry publications. In 1998, Hali also began DJing in Toronto's trendy Queen West cafes and has since worked his magic in virtually all of the city's top underground clubs, lounges, and hotspots of the past decade. He has held successful residencies such as Robsoul and LazyDays at Footwork, Turbo Nightclub for their Saturday night 'Toronto Housing Project', The Living Room during the legendary 'Hard & Soul Sundays', Fez Batik for his 9-piece live jazzy-house improv project called Organic Vibes, and also 4 years at NASA Dancepub for it's popular Friday nights 'Ground Control'.
As his unique sound became increasingly popular, Hali took his plate-spinning acrobatics across North America, Europe and Asia. He performed repeatedly at the OM Festival, Harvest Festival, Montreal's Soulmeka, Toronto Jazz Festival, Promise parties, Fukhouse, as well as events such as Garage 416 and jojoflores's Therapy. He has moved crowded dancefloors all across Canada; from Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and extensively throughout Southern Ontario. Internationally, DJ Hali has played 4 years of afterparties during Detroit Electronic Music Festivals, DJ tours throughout Germany, at warehouse parties in Detroit, Chicago, and Boston, and repeat performances in NYC, including several Grammy Awards afterparties. In April 2008, Hali performed at the internationally renowned Full Moon festival on Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand. His guest appearance on the island's largest soundsystem, at Full Moon originator's The Rock, drew the attention of local music industry and international partygoers alike, which helped earn him an enthusiastic residency at Mellow Mountain Bar, overlooking the stunning soft whitesands of Haadrin's Sunrise Beach.
As well as being an accomplished producer and an International DJ, Hali is also firmly established in promoting underground electronic dance music to the public. He is the founder of the event promotion company Poundhouse and founder & DJ of the popular Netmusique Internetradio station, which currently boasts over 1 million listeners per month. He has received international attention with his acclaimed radioshow 'Cold Tea' every Thursday night at 9pm EST on Netmusique Electrique, which is ranked the Top 3 netradio station for Minimal Techno by AOL/Shoutcast. Beyond that, he has made many radio appearances including Toronto's CIUT 89.5 FM, Windsor's CJAM 91.5 FM, 1groove.com and also televised performances on CBC, Muchmusic, Discovery Channel, and the Life Network.
Hali's sound can be best described as a sophisticated and forward-thinking blend of Minimal Techno, Techhouse, Deep House, and Techno. It's a blend that has won over dancefloors around the world. Hali is currently a resident DJ of the secretive Box of Kittens and also at Circa Nightclub, voted Best Superclub in the World at the WMC 2008 Awards in Miami this year.
