Dmerit is the pairing of Ghostly alum Bernard Farley aka Outputmessage, with DC musician/producer/DJ Miguel Lacsamana aka Micah Vellian. After dissolving their first collaboration, Person, the two decided to revisit a “side project” idea they had. They pulled from their common interests in French house, Disco, Soul and Pop to arrive at an initial template. Using their two monthly DJ nights, FLAT OUT! and MARQUIS, they further honed their sound and eventually formed Dmerit–a name inspired by their day jobs as teachers and a reference to those pesky hall monitors who kept chanting “Demerit, Demerit!” from The Ramones’ movie, Rock and Roll High School.
