User-generated genre tags | 30 apr 08 4:42 p.m. Song genres for blog scrapes are often wrong. How about the facility for users to tag these songs, with the most used tag being used for the song? This could be a level unlock, say 10-15+?

Re: User-generated genre tags | 30 apr 08 6:27 p.m. Something definitely needs to be done to fix this. The album art is also often wrong. I don't know how easy your suggestion would be to implement. Another suggestion is a procedure where we tunebox the song with a suggestion for a genre change to Sam, James or a fictive user. That seems rather easy to do.

Re: User-generated genre tags | 01 may 08 7:29 a.m. This could definitely be a good level unlock ... higher level users could also serve as meta-moderators.

Re: User-generated genre tags | 01 may 08 11:59 a.m. in all seriousness, though, promoting some of the high-level users to moderator status might help shift the administrative load off of Sam and James and keep them focused on writing features. On the other hand, if they haven't already written administrative tools (editting the tables by hand or whatever), maybe that wouldn't save them much time in the short run.

Re: User-generated genre tags | 03 may 08 7:45 a.m. I think an artist should be able to choose how they describe their music as part of the creative process - they have to right to label it, and we have the right to disagree.
But it seems to be that the problem isn't genre descriptions as such, but those arising from blog scrapes. In which case I would argue we need some changes to how blog scrapes are managed. If you agree, there's a thread ongoing in Feature Requests about this now, and I'd refer you to that, rather than hijack this thread about higher level users having moderating powers...... |

Re: User-generated genre tags | 20 may 08 11:16 p.m. I disagree with this feature to some extent. If we had everyone labeling their music with custom genre tags then there would be out there ballpark labels that would clutter the whole thing up. Now if they had a feature that allowed users to request genres and automatically add highly requested ones, that would be less chaotic and hell of a lot more efficient.

Re: User-generated genre tags | 21 may 08 4:52 a.m. longfellow, I don't think (maybe I'm wrong) that they're talking about users redefining the genre list. Rather, I think they mean that some method to correcting a clearly mischosen or farcical genre selection by allowing users to reclassify based upon the current list available to t61. Check some "Transmitter Down" stuff. They'll label it "country" and it'll be nowhere near that...

Re: User-generated genre tags | 22 may 08 11:48 a.m. What about an artist rating and a listener rating. IE: The artist rates it as trance, but the majority of listeners think it should be contemporary country :)
Of course I'm sure this could turn into a programming nightmare. Am I listening to the Hot Artist rated or listener rated Rock songs? etc. Just throwing the thought out there. |

Re: User-generated genre tags | 22 may 08 12:58 p.m. There is a Zen saying...
Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth. Would be nice to allow some user feedback into this. Maybe you could select which label you'd get, either artis or user generated. I have a hard time find the music I would expect to find on a favorite radio station per'se. Rock/Alternative is uh pretty much a label for "I want people to listen to it." |
