Biography

New Music Monday: 7/21/2008
'Possum Kingdom' by the Toadies has some fun time signature changes going on. So, when Shael Riley asked me if I would like to cover the song in 2006, I accepted the challenge.

I decided to give the song a swing beat, but one of the coolest parts about the original version of this song is how the verses bounce back and forth between 7 beats and 8 beats. I don't read music, or fully understand music theory, but I wanted to keep that in there so... (+) expand

It was the first scary (for a six year old anyway) movie I ever saw.

glenn, i'm from texas--not too far from dfw, so when "rubberneck" came out it got a load of play on the alternative station out of dallas. your cover of "possum kingdom" is simply outstanding.

cheers!

Good song! Hopefully it does well enough to remain on here, unlike your wonderful Beach Boys cover

New Music Monday - 7/14/2008

I'm hoping to write a bunch of new songs for the 50/90 challenge, but that started 10 days ago and I haven't even started yet. Not a good sign. In the meantime, I remembered that I had recorded this cover a while back, but I couldn't find it on my website's server. Then I realized it was the file in my root directory labeled 'test2.mp3'

'On My Block' was a songfight title in February of 2002. I didn't discover SongFight until July of 2003, but I became friends with some of the other songwriters on the site, and that definitely includes prayformojo. Chris is a nice, funny guy, and the man knows how to write a hook! I had the opportunity to be a last minute honorary member of his band at Songfight Live Santa Cruz in 2006 where we played this song.

So, I proudly present this cover to you as well as YouTube clips of the entire set from the prayformojo Good Times Fun Band! (Husky Youth is highly recommended!)

Glenn, I was flipping through the Rack when I hit a song. I recognized your voice and a glimpse of your image along with two other people. The like "many packages" reached my ears just as I accidentally clicked.

So, what was it?

Today's selection for 'New Music Monday' is a track from 2004 called 'Fundamental Pie', which was originally attributed to 'Slap Me'. 'Slap Me' was one many potential band names proposed to the characters in a comic called 'Comic!'

The characters in Comic! were modeled after Yook's real life friends, and the lyrical content in 'Fundamental Pie' revolves around those characters. There was even a character based on me that probably came about as a result of me bugging Yook about it just enough.

The lyrics will make much more sense if you read the comic. Here's the first one. To date there are 126 in all.

Sorry for the delay, y'all.

To upload a new song for New Music Monday, I have to delete an old song. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to delete an old song for the last half hour.

I'll keep trying, and hopefully I'll have a 'new' song online soon.

My ex-bandmates in the Grammar Club have released a cover of Jonathan Coulton's 'Code Monkey' and it has turned out very well. I highly recommend checking it out!

New Music Monday!
PBC Productions asked me to create an original song that could play over the credits of a documentary they were making about the Puppeteers of America. The documentary is also called 'Puppet Rampage'. This song is making it's debut on thesixtyone, as it is not available anywhere else as I type this out.

I am proud to be part of the project, and I am also proud to have worked with PBC on music for The New Adventures of Captain S, and the theme song to Little Miss Gamer.
