To our faithful listeners,

We've decided to formally shutdown thesixtyone.com -- our servers will go offline at midnight, May 1st 2017.

Artist tipping and music purchases will be functional until then, so please spend any remaining credits by month's end.
A final payment will be made to artists following the shutdown.

thesixtyone was our baby for most of our twenties. We're incredibly sorry we weren't able to keep things going in the
right direction.

Thank you for being a part of it.

I just don't have words to express how sad I am to see this place go. Occasionally, some special sites allow communities to build very special things. In its time, this one has changed my life.
There are many songs here that I've never shared anywhere else. I'm one of those artists who don't really care about sharing, and who don't spend time in self-promoting. Yet, my music has been listened to here, and commented on, saved and downloaded. It's even been payed for, even though it's free. You all helped me gain self-confidence, and provided me with steady motivation for the past 16 months, which allowed me to move forward with projects that felt overwhelming beforehand. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It's not just listeners that I'm losing, but friends that I will awfully miss.
Take care. Stay strong whatever madness disturbs your personal journey. Plant trees.

Love & hugs.

And thank you so much for supporting @mojothecat, @Caterwauler and @adarkerpremonition! <3

Each album of my soundtrack has gained two new tracks during FAWM.
"Surreptitious" is track 6 in TTP1. It matches the scene where a young guy decides to follow an expedition of seasoned warriors, unbeknownst to them.

I've spent the past 28 days working on new songs during the February Album Writing Month.
Making it to 14 songs was much more challenging than usual this year, but I did it, and my last track was inspired by you, T61ers.
Here are the liner notes I posted with the song :
«In January 2016, thesixtyone.com came back to life after a six years hiatus. I loved this site when it was big, and I still love it now that it is small. I'm both an artist and a listener there : a blissful artist, and an addicted listener. The community is wonderful. Without the support of T61's people, I wouldn't be where I am musically as I'm typing this. They've carried me while I was going through the most challenging times. Their outstanding kindness inspired me this song : 61 ways to make you feel good, and a way out for me at the end of this abnormally difficult FAWM.
Max hearts for you, T61 people. I love you.»

By early January, cancer took my friend Paul Turrell, also known as "Hoopshank" amongst the FAWM community.
Paul was an outstanding songwriter, who devised amazing, often complex pieces, that he performed effortlessly.
I had the immense privilege of collaborating with him on this song, L'Aurore, that we wrote together in 2009. I'm sharing it today, as well as the fond memories of creating it.
Guitars and vocals are me ; Paul played everything else.

«Lucky Star»
When I logged in with my listener account on January 1st, I found this message from @va7sdf on my wall : «Happy New Year, Joanne! I adopted a star for you, because you are a T61 star!
http://palebluedot.whitedwarf.org/stars/10201711 ».
Seriously, how cool is that? It was so sweet that it urged me to write a song inspired by this star and his adopter.
You know, @va7sdf is the listener behind the little red devil avatar. Besides being nice, helpul, and generous to artists, he spends his time bumping others' radios up. If someday you notice that your radio has gained 100 listens in one day, chances are that he has found you. :)
Thank you, @va7sdf ; here is a Lucky Star for you. <3

I'm a writer and music maker hailing from France.
Words enable me to create worlds ; music allows me to explore them.

About 'The Twelve Pahiran'

By the end of 2014, I undertook to write a fantasy novel taking place in the secondary world that had been growing inside my head for nearly half of my life.

Connecting my music to my novel felt like a natural move, so after writing the first draft of the story, I started to record songs to match the important scenes, concepts, places...

In my eyes, music is a powerful world-building tool. It enables me to develop my Con-Lang through singing, which feels much easier (and more enjoyable) than with 'standard' processes.

Music also allows me to delve deeper into my world, so as to 'see' it, and 'feel' it more clearly. When I want to explore a place, I simply plug my instruments, and let the vision (and knowledge) arise from sounds rather than from words.

This soundtrack is very dear to me, and it is also very personal. I had never ever put so much time and effort into any musical project. A few weeks back, I wasn't even thinking about releasing these songs. But then, Thesixtyone came bac... (+) expand

If there is one thing I could say marked my time on thesixtyone.com, one that I'm truly grateful for, I'd have to say it was the discovery of your music, and the privilege of your friendship. I wish you the very best, and thank you for inspiration and support.

My last (and rather meager) credits go to you Joanne. I hope you continue your adventure even without this site to keep you organized and on track. I will hope to one day see your novel and accompanying soundtrack somewhere in my life. Blessed be beyond this place.

Wow, this is amazing! I had no idea you had done this... Hoopshank will be missed by all of us; but I am so glad you got the opportunity to collaborate with him. This is indeed complex, beautiful, and transcendent. Beautiful. Your voice is hypnotic. I really love this one.

While we will all enjoy your dispersion of new music either way, I know it is fun for a bunch of us to see who can grab the new Joanne Gabriel for the week. It's not a contest as much as it is something a number of us look forward to trying to find. The hunt is on!

I messed my calculations up. I could keep up with one per week for a little while, or add more pandemonium and let them come in a real deluge. Not decided yet. :)
