John Torres is a singer and songwriter, who puts his heart entirely into his work, and probably needs to take a vacation. Often times, while you are doing healthy, socially well-adjusted things (like hanging out with your family, working, preparing lunch...etc), John is likely doing “odd things,” like making lists of his all-time favorite songs, and dissecting them, like a mad scientist to see what makes them so amazing. Then he might actually make a database that outlines his observations and sets a timeline on when he might be able to achieve such impact in songwriting. He’s nothing like the stereotype of a musician who wakes up at noon and never showers. He’s kinda more like how you might imagine a geologist or an accountant to spend his time. “Odd.” Just an observation.
Born in Los Angeles, CA (San Dimas to be exact), and raised in a small suburb (Temple City) by his Mexican-American father, Raymond, and fresh-off-the-boat Italian mother, Carmela, John lived out a very lucky childhood. Surrounded by tons of family, who talk with their hands and cook like gods, he was born into an environment that was really great for loving deeply, and dreaming big.
It has taken John several year to get past the brooding, self-imposed pain-ridden, “woe is me, I’m an artist” crap that plagues so many singer/songwriters these days. But over the last year or so, you could say he kinda got cured. These days John has a simpler goal. He is striving (through databases and dork-dom) to be an artist who simply entertains, inspires, and challenges his listeners. To be a songwriter whose works are true to his life, pure to his heart, and lovely to experience.
