Honest. Earthy. Beautiful. Like suede brushing against suede. These are just some of the sentiments that have described the voice of Lisa Michelle. Her music is Acoustic Pop Soul, gift-wrapped in smooth instrumentation by mastermind Duff Demirovic. Her vocals make you want to lean back, close your eyes and smile at all the good things in life.
Influenced by the artistry of Jill Scott, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae and India.Arie, Lisa Michelle’s sound is that of sensuality, substance and soul. Clichéd but true, she first garnered her penchant for performing in the church, moving the congregation with gospel solos by the age of 14.
Every inch an artist, Lisa Michelle now boldly ventures between the studio, stage and screen as an actress and songstress. She starred as Darlene Love in the musical Leader of the Pack performed at Toronto Centre for the Arts, appeared in various TV commercials and was featured on an episode of the UPN drama series Kevin Hill starring actor Taye Diggs.
Lisa Michelle had the pleasure of performing live with Canadian Hip Hop artist Belly and R&B; sensation Ginuwine at the 2007 Much Music Awards. She’s also shared the stage with Melanie Durrant and performed alongside soul band Jamesking at the first annual Montreal Funk Fest.
Right now, you can find her buried amidst sheets of music and poetry as she thoughtfully pieces together her first full-length album. "Something New" will be released later this year, and she's trusting it will live up to its title. In the meantime, you can enjoy the first few numbers of the album on her new website at www.LisaMichelleMusic.com.
Asked to describe herself or her music, Lisa Michelle borrows a favourite lyric from Ms. Jill Scott: “...like the breeze, easy and free… and lovely… and me”.
