...it's just a hobby really. i do these for myself, mostly...
these songs often come out sounding like journal entries, but hey, i like sharing sad things i probably shouldn't with people.
these are home recordings.
i'm not trying to do this for a living or anything so all my songs are free to download. i'll certainly accept tips though, and i do have it available that you can download any album for 5 bucks.
"walks home" is my most recent, (Feb 2012). there are 3 other full albums from 2011 available through the61.
"the manor" was my first, well, let's call it, Official release. i've been recording and making albums since before i could play guitar. i pretended to play guitar from 2005 to 2009, when all of a sudden i wasn't really pretending anymore, i actually could string together some real chords. i even may have known some of their names, shit got crazy. i like to say that 'ocean of love' is my big single. it's not like anyone really got to hear it, but it is a total pop song and i love it.
"thoughts unresolved" (2011) is what i'm treating as a b-sides and re-release album. songs like "my alien" and "adore you" are some of the first songs i had ever written (way back in 2005) and remain mostly unchanged. the bird track you hear in a bunch of these songs is actually just a bird that lived right outside my window at 'the manor' apartment building down in the south end of halifax. it was too hard to remove when i wanted to record in the daytime so i just tried to mix it in well.
"sensible" (Dec 2011) was me trying to take a step back and simplify. i had moved into an amazing loft space and for the first time had my own real 'studio' space in which i could make tons of noise real early in the day and late into the night. i experienced some of my darkest and brightest hours in that home, it was great! had just made a move to upgrade my guitar after a bachelor party accident. i had 'Em' my Ibanez Artwood repaired and also use 'Zooey' my lovely, new to me, Martin DM plugin. back to the album though, most songwriters and songs that inspire me keep to simple guitar, vocal tracks so i tried to keep it simple on that album. no drum tracks, not much synth or my typical heavy guitar effects. i really love overall tone and how it turned out. the combination of "dizzy me" and "the black cloud" are two of my songs that i am most proud of.
"walks home" (Feb 2012) is hopefully another evolution for me, subtle, very subtle evolution. Recorded out of my new basement apartment we are calling the 'Halifamous Studio' South End Halifax, Nova Scotia.
'm.a.p. ep' is a two song set from a few years back that i wanted a proper recording of. just bits and pieces of old love letters.
...it's all solo work on these ones...
