Ander Lucia is a young, independent singer-songwriter from a small surf town off the central coast of California. He has played piano all his life, but began picking up the ukulele and writing his own music at age thirteen. After only a year of songwriting, and at the age of fourteen, he recorded and produced his debut EP, The Other Side, independently at a local studio in Santa Cruz, CA. The album consists mostly of light, piano-based tracks.
Lucia’s live show is known for its quirky, upbeat sense of humor as he interacts with the audience during his set. As French webzine, POPnews, says, “He [has] a certain sense of humor in both his voice and his lyrics.” Ander, now fifteen, continuously keeps the atmosphere fresh and enjoyable, which may be the reason for his wide variety and rapidly increasing number of fans.
Ander’s second album will begin production in the later months of 2009, with an anticipated release of mid-2010. According to Ander, the record will have a “fuller sound," featuring drums, cello, and guitar along with the usual piano and ukulele.
The young songwriter is continuously performing concerts in his hometown of Santa Cruz, a quickly growing indie-music-epicenter of the country. However, this winter, all of his musical efforts will be put forth to work in the studio on the new record. “I love all aspects of being a singer-songwriter,” says Ander. “I love to play my shows and interact with audiences, but it’s also nice to be able to hide away in a studio and get what I hear in my head, down on tape. It truly is the best feeling when you make something come to life—something that has never been there before.”
