Manwomanchild is a one-man rock band from Chicago, IL.
Formed in Providence, RI in 2008, MANWOMANCHILD is a newcomer to the Chicago scene this year. Their music merges strong melodies with 70s-style glam rock swagger and a unique lyrical sensibility. Their sound has been compared to Lou Reed’s solo work as well as early Bowie. Other major influences include The Modern Lovers, and the Soft Boys / Robyn Hitchcock.
In 2009, MANWOMANCHILD recorded its first full-length at Machines With Magnets—a studio best known for its recent work with Battles, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Lightning Bolt, among others. The completed album finds singer/guitarist David Child joining forces with bassist Craig Gifford and drummer Mason Neely, yielding dynamic yet tightly crafted arrangements that underscore the jaunty guitar hooks and ever-so-slightly gritty vocals.
In February 2010, MANWOMANCHILD put out a self-titled EP featuring three tracks that will appear on the forthcoming album. MP3s can be found online at the official EP release site:
