My name seems to be something people can't quite comprehend: that a parent would call their child Marmaduke. And that is certainly the way i thought for most of my life, until i found the stage and a voice!

The furthest you can trace my family tree back is some time in the 1500s to a pirate called Marmaduke Dando, who left Sussex for the Carribean on a ship of some description. As far as we can tell, he settled in Bermuda and spread his seed there. My father in his wisdom decided to name me after this great pillager, with Marmaduke as my forename, Dando as my middle name, and Hutchings as my surname.

My mother, thank god, enrolled me in school under a more contemporary forgiving name, she had foresight! That name was Daniel Mark Hutchings. And now all those issues of conformity i once held so important have fallen by the wayside, and i have reinstated my given name to it's rightful place.

On this page you will find songs written by myself, influenced by bossa nova, jazz standards, and glorious pop from the 80s and 90s...though at present, with the only instruments i have at my disposal. The songs above are by no means the intended end product.

Towards the end of 2007 i scraped a band together to back me, i like to call The Mooche. They're a beautiful bunch, and many of them play their own music aswell, see profiles below. The coming year will see us perform all over London at least, and recordings of the whole band will be made.

I am also curator of Power Down, a pioneering music night in the capital, with low carbon emissions to promote the concept of sustainability. (-) collapse
