"Matt and the Machines, formed in the late 1980's, are still cloaked in mystery. The leader and front man, Matty Uns, speaks very little of [the Machines] often changing the subject, or extemporaneously drifting into the abstract. In an interview in 1999, at the apex of their sub-post-dance genre bending phase, Uns was asked why the band had such a name, [if the Machines] never showed up for gigs. 'The Machines have never commented on their absences.'
Fodder for VH1's Behind the Music and online gossip sites, The Machines drifted into obscurity in the early 2000's, binging on computer chips and attending LAN parties that lasted entire weekends. The group reformed in 2005 with new inspiration and post-modern angst to boot. MATM continues to set trends in the post-electro-dance pop paradigm.
