Thanks Justin...About a year ago I had an opportunity to visit the area, another Great Blues Performer who's time here was far too short...visit the area's where he performed, and possibly visit with a remaining family member or two from that great wonderful time...However, Life had other plans for me...things just happen how they happen. It would have been an honor to visit those places, it's very cool that Your Dad and yourself could dothat together, ..those Memories are PRICELESS, even better than Visa, HAA Big Love Justin :) DAMN Good Song and thanks again for sharing with us...

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments! Here's a special treat just for you:

Does anyone know where this is?

If you guessed thesixtyone, you're correct! Mike and I took a road trip a few years ago from California to Memphis and then down the 61 to Baton Rouge and New Orleans (pre-Katrina). Pictured here is Mike at the Dockery Plantation -- where delta blues was born. Home to such greats as Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson and Howlin' Wolf.

Mike wrote a few songs inspired by this road trip, which were recorded for the appropriately titled "Headed South" album. I've uploaded one of them today, called "Blues for the Bearcat." I think it's a fitting song for this site. So, get ready to sit back for 6 minutes and get a soulful history lesson about the blues.

Justin, it's quite moving to me, the way you keep supporting the Community, all in your dads Amazing Name. I find his music to have a spiritual uplift in some the sadness of the chords, which of course, is why i love LOVE love Blues and after JUST getting toknow him on 61 it seems the BIG GUY in the sky had other plans...
Many Blessings to you and your family...and it's all in the Name and the Love of the Music, he lives :)

the 'choir' feel this already has, the fullness, the depth....would be an incredible healing journey for all involved!

That would be so cool, and EZ to organize, actually - there is a virtual world dedicated to musicians that could probably handle it - Ummm, Doc Quinn would readily know -p it will come to me, duh. I'll be the one with the kazoo - giggles.

Actually, that's Mike harmonizing with himself. It's also him playing piano, keyboard, drums, tambourine, guitar, and bass. Multi-track recorders are fun :)

I'm glad you brought that up though. It sparked an idea.... why not sing with him on it? Why not have his fellow musician friends sing on it? We could do a remake of the song and have a big choir of his friends all singing the song together. That would be fun. Mike always wanted to record it again with a choir.

Thanks for being a faithful listener and for your interest in his music. Your comments are so fun to read,
Justin

I'm wondering - "We Could Walk on Water" - is that Mike and Justin, singing together? I think that is so beautiful, and well, it was just a thought - anybody know?
