I live in Copenhagen where I write, compose, play, record and in general find stuff. It just pops up while working or improvising, and eventually turns into a piece of music, which for some reason never seems to be completely finished.
I also write plays and work with movies, in 2009 the Irish director Niel Jordan found some of my electronic sound, and used it in his feature movie "Ondine". I was very excited about the result. I really like many of his movies, not least "The crying game".
So there will always be new adventures to venture into, open ends to continue. I see it as cinematic music, instrumental mostly, at times with voices, soundscapes for movies, movies you yourself will have to invent.
I play the saxophone, but for a long time I "just" composed - took my diploma in composition and saxophone from the Royal Danish Music Academy - now I compose, record and work in my studio, play my sax and maybe later do a live thing - I think I would like that, using my samples on a laptop and the saxophone.
Mick Nye is my recording name, it is no secret that my real name is Michael Nyvang, I always sign my compositions as a composer with my real name, but people seem to have a hard time pronouncing it (Its kind of cool that people often think I am Japanese or Chinese - Ny Wang... well, anyway), a friend from Brooklyn suggested Mick Nye as an alternative.
I am known as "The crazy Dane", what the future will bring, who can tell? I will just live through it, and enjoy the chaos.
