As true as your momma’s undying devotion to you, Mike’s Apartment makes Soul music that keeps it real, for real.
The result of countless hours of rehearsals and sound trips, over 100 gigs and appearances in just 4 years, and stimulation from the stalwarts in and around the local and global Soul scene, is a sound that’s uncompromising yet full of Filipino flavor and the primal, greasy funk that resides in each of the band members’ cores and in the fibers of their character.
Speaking of character, the band’s identity hasn’t changed much since day 1, yo. It’s the Mike’s Apartment name that gets you initially. Male listeners and onlookers who have ever downloaded “stuff” immediately get it. Often assuming Mike’s Apartment comes from the singer’s name and where he probably resides, it takes a quick Google search for the females to get up to speed.
And then there’s the whole “romansa espesyal” label. The band can’t even remember how it came to be that people in the audience started screaming this as soon as they got up on stage, save maybe for the fact that it was seriously considered as a band name before deciding on what they are now known as. Needless to say, listen to the music and the brand of soul that will invade your loins, getting your imagination going, is undeniably the sensual, soulful vibes of Mike’s Apartment. To the band, whatever everyone wishes to call it, when all is said and done, the music is Soul Music. And the intention is to craft ageless music that will stand on its own artistic merit when we’ve all kicked the bucket.
Mike's Apartment has finally released their highly-anticipated first LP last September 27, 2008 at 19 East in Sucat. Independently-produced, Lovers/Quarrel is a concept album that tells a story about the beginning, meat and end of an embattled relationship. The first single off Lovers/Quarrel was "Nagdedeliryo" which placed 6th on NU107’s Stairway to 7 and was even up for Song of the Year at the NU107’s 2007 Rock Awards. The video may still be seen on MYX and MTV.
The band releases it's next single, “The First” on October 14, 2009. It may be heard on NU107, UR105.9 and Wave 89.1.
