And It Begins...
"Mobu Goes Solo" is a one-man band first formed in 2009 by it's one and only member Mubassher Kamal. He's of an Asian ethnicity being born in Chittagong, Bangladesh in September 16th, 1989. Mubassher currently resides in Minnesota, USA.
His mother introduced him to the Indian Harmonium when he was just six years old. He could play it fluently as the instrument required only one hand to actually play the keys (the Indian Harmonium does look a lot similar to a Piano). Mubassher developed a passion for the more Arabic/Middle-Eastern tunes and which in Hindi is called Raga Bhairav.
A few years later, his mother encouraged him to take classical lessons from Hassan, who was soon going to be his music teacher. Mubassher learned classical music for about a year and a half but inconsistency in practice lead him finally to a halt. He thought he had learned a great deal about music theory until he found his true love: the guitar.
Friend's Guitar
Unfortunately for Mubassher, it was almost impossible for him to buy a guitar since his father wanted him to grow up as a Computer Scientist and discouraged him from becoming a musician. Nevertheless, he finally acquired an acoustic guitar from his good friend Zahein. With just five strings on the guitar, he started to practice day and night. Coming from an Indian classical music background, it was slightly easy for him to listen and play some of Pundit Ravi Shankar's tunes.
All this time he used to play with his "flesh" picks. One of his friends (sorry that I can't remember the name) advised him to buy a pick and practice with that. And he followed that advice. At first, it seemed really troublesome to play with picks as Mubassher was already used to finger-picking, or more commonly known as plucking. Frustrated, he spent more time practicing the guitar and learning some musical scales (such as Dorian, Lydian). He found Ultimate-guitar.com as an invaluable source of help and learned a great deal just by visiting the forums and lessons that website provided.
Being Acknowledged
While not so excited in learning that his son really got into music, Mubassher's father Mr. Kamal appreciated his effort in learning to play the guitar so well all by himself. As it would be with any other musician, Mubassher first gained fame within his family. Family members would visit their house and would ask him to play some tunes and sing along with it since he could sing too as well.
In the school, his talent was slowly radiating through out the whole campus. He sang a Bengali traditional song at the school's Annual Event and got an standing ovation. That cleared his way for meeting many other well-known musicians. He also had a good reputation for singing at the Chittagong Club Ltd.
Les Paul and Electronic Music
In the summer of 2007, Mubassher visited Minnesota, USA to see his eldest sister. She loved Blues music and had a huge influence for Mubassher's more bluesy tunes. His eldest sister then bought him a Epiphone Les Paul Special II electric guitar from Musician's Friend and his father bought him a Line6 Spider III 15W amplifier. Thanks to his 2nd sister, he got a hard-case for his guitar which he used to take the guitar all over the world.
Mubassher saw a whole new world and opportunities with the electric guitar. With that, you could play lightning fast licks (given that you practiced a lot). He set a goal: to play as good as Slash (GNR) or even better. Though at first the idea seemed completely illogical, with enough practice and dedication, he could play fast and accurate enough to impress his other guitar buddies. Later that year, he resumed working with Image-Line's Fl Studio. He loved the software for it's simplicity and unique futuristic User Interface.
