There is a great deal of controversy as to whether being stolen by fairies as an infant is a good or bad thing. Indeed, there is a tendency for confusion as to whether fairies themselves are nice little sprites or dangerous, malicious bastards.

The prevailing view is that they are a race distinct from humans and angels, originating in the islands of the far north, where this world and the Otherworld overlap. Some more suspicious minded however posit that they are a race of demoted angels and during the Great Battle of the Morningstar, when God shut the gates to the 3 worlds, those in Heaven remained Angels, those in Hell became Demons, and those in the lands in between became Fairies.

Regardless, Fairy abduction is quite a serious business and most who have undergone it never make it back. Those who do find there are few careers they are qualified for. Some become bakers or dream catcher makers, some weld steel or build emery wheels, some design ads or simply go quite mad.

And occasionally a few of the more wretched of these poor sods become musicians.
