Machinery Of The Night is an electronic music collective from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The group is composed of two core producers who currently wish to remain anonymous. They are supported by a rotating cast of musicians and vocalists almost all of whom are heavily involved in the Muscle Shoals music scene.
The producers met in 2008 while both were working on the production staff for a television pilot. This chance encounter would lead to numerous future collaborations between the two primarily in the fields of music, video, and production. Over the next few years one idea kept resurfacing; a plan to pull together like-minded artists from multiple genres to produce a unique Southern flavor of electronic music.
In the summer of 2010 the Dirty Little Secret project was born starting with a remix of Sebastien Tellier’s “Look”. The public response was overwhelming culminating in numerous blog posts, a number one spot on the Hype Machine’s Most Popular chart and 24,000 Soundcloud listens all within just six days of posting the track. At the time of this writing the total Soundcloud listens has topped 40,000. These were clear signs to the duo that the time had come to bring this long talked about musical concept to fruition; Machinery Of The Night was formed.
The next several months would see the two all but disappear into the studio. The resulting album, Seven Systems, is a concept piece in seven acts with each song representing the experience of a day out of the week. According to them, “The idea was to bring back the whole album experience. Not just a collection of songs, but a complete work that taken in all at once is greater than the sum of its parts.” There are also rumors floating around the MOTN camp of a companion short film.
During production of Seven Systems MOTN was signed to Muscle Shoals based Southern Discipline Recording Company. In addition to now having a label to call home they were also able to pull in many of their label-mates to collaborate on the album. Machinery Of The Night is currently the only electronic act signed to Southern Discipline.
