Naomi Sunderland is a drummer living in Brisbane, Australia. She used to say she was a singer songwriter living in Brisbane but now likes saying she's a drummer more than saying she's a singer :) John Barns actually plays the drums on Naomi's two albums 'Red Dirt Road' (2007) and 'Stitches' (2009). John is one of Australia's great musicians and has now graciously become Naomi's drumming mentor.
Naomi has a cherry sparkle Ludwig custom kit that her husband Phil Graham (of Phil Graham Band) bought her for her birthday. Naomi's dog Lemon the Labrador used to sleep under the floor tom of Naomi's kit when she was a puppy while Naomi played. Now if Lemon is in a bad mood Naomi just has to play a bit of time and Lemon sparks right up.
Phil and Naomi produce their own music under the indy label 'coffee bean records' (coffeebeanrecords.com). The music is made with friends and family (naomi's dad played mouth organ on her latest album).
The recordings are good because Phil was a professional muso and producer for many years. He is also a great arranger. Yes and of course we have been fortunate to have great musicians as friends who are willing to share and expand our music. Names below:
Peter Willersdorf - fretless bass
John Barns - drums and percussion
Phil Graham - acoustic guitar, electric guitar, backing vocals
Tim Gaze - lead guitar, lap steel guitar
Les Foyle - bass
Donna Hewitt - backing vocals
Julian Knowles - backing vocals
Lemon - ambient sounds as she wanders around in the studio
