OBEDIENT WAVES

Los Angeles, CA

about +
Billy Gruber and Joanna DeVoe started Obedient Waves in August 2007 with a 16 month long, underground project, Rock & Roll 4 President, that was created to run along side the presidential race and had them releasing an EP of original material every couple of months and a weekly homemade video, featuring a rotating cast of musicians backing them up on original songs like "Cool As Hell", "Me Me Me", and "Assassination" and covers like XTC's "Dear God" and The Door's "People Are Strange".

Obedient Waves added Dylan Halacy on drums and a series of bass players (Travis Laws, Mike Crawford, and Donovan Hernandez) to launch their live stage show in April '08 at Silverlake Lounge with Stab City & The Meemies and soon followed that up with a June residency at Bordello and dozens more shows at places like Alex's Bar in Long Beach, Old Towne Pub in Pasadena, and The Roxy on Hollywood's infamous Sunset Strip.

In 2009, Obedient Waves began taking their act on the road, starting with Narducci's and The Mint in Bakersfield and will be kicking off some light touring in Summer '09 with back to back shows at The Double Down Saloon in Vegas and Jughead's in Phoenix with The Dead Ponies.

After releasing 6 EPs for the Rock & Roll 4 President Series out of their home studio, California Sound Control, and enjoying their own prolific song-writing nature and the freedom afforded by being unsigned, Obedient Waves released We Never Liked You Anyway as a FREE digital download in May '09. That 3 song EP features a ranting, almost robotic "I'm Bipolar Cuzz Of You", "Cotton Fever", a skanky ode to junky girls, and the outsider's anthem, "We Never Liked You Anyway".

Summer '09 will see Obedient Waves carrying on their tradition of melodic punk rock, social commentary, and snarky boy-gril vocals with the release of Rumble Fish, their 8th EP in less than two years, and "The Nose Knows", a fan favorite, was rerecorded at Timothy James' (The Movies) Chermak Studios in the spring of '09 for an upcoming compilation that will also feature popular L.A. acts like Health Club, The Seasons, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and Stab City.

Obedient Waves can often be found tending to their ever-growing MySpace network at MySpace.com/ObedientWaves and hosting their own radio show, CALiFORNiA SOUND CONTROL : Ride The Waves With Obedient Waves at KillRadio.org Fridays at noon. They have no intentions of slowing down soon or ever, for that matter, and hope you'll join them on their bumpy, punk rocking ride.
