news
Looks like I've come out of retirement.

Ten new songs, all uploaded on the same day. This set has nothing to do with Black Rock. The inspiration is from my time as an RA at Eastern University. My "coworkers" that year were pretty much the coolest people ever. SO they each got a song written for them... five years later.

The "Team Sullivan" bookend tracks are for the family that led us. A fine team, they are.

All songs are free to download. Tips still go to help BRR sponsor kids for a week at summer camp.

ooookaaaaaaay!!

I am done releasing the 2004 tracks. There were 25 "person" songs and one bonus track. I'd like to use this space to talk about the bonus track.

"(Don't?) Say What You Mean" is an experimental, multi-layered track I performed on a keyboard. The inspiration for the music comes from 4 specific days throughout the 4 summers I worked at BRR. One day each summer (during a training week at the beginning) I chose to do a "talking fast." You know, like a "vow of silence"?

There are many reasons a person might choose to not talk. For myself, it was a test and a learning experience. With every passing situation, thoughts went through my head, and a good many of those thoughts would eventually be blurted out. "And this is what I would've said here," I would say to myself; and then I'd have the chance to weigh those words.

For people like me, who say (sometimes) inappropriate things at (often) inappropriate times, it's quite the exercise.

The music expresses the jumble of thoughts I would sort in my own head while going through the day. Some were good! I'd think of something, and be able to say, "yeah, that would've been a nice thing to say." And other things I thought to say were just ... stupid, or annoying. So if you think the song is stupid/annoying, I've conveyed at least part of the intended meaning. :P

------------

So that's the final track. At this point, I consider the (Black Rock Inspires) Pat Gann project to be complete. IF YOU FEEL THERE SHOULD BE MORE, DEMAND IT! There are certainly other areas / ways of doing a musical exploration of BRR; particularly, the landscape, the individual locations, the seasons, blahblahblah. But I won't feel up to it unless there's "popular" demand (a strange word to use for such a niche project).

Thanks everyone and enjoy the music.

Alright folks, I'm BAAAACK!!!

The 2004 CD, the final one, which took a full 5 years for me to make, has finally been unveiled.

Over the next few weeks, I will be uploading one to two songs PER DAY from the CD, which has 26 tracks on it. Please remember to give tips if you want to help sponsor an underprivileged youth to attend a great summer camp!

Thanks for listening everyone!

biography
One of the best things to ever happen to me was the opportunity to work at Black Rock Retreat for four summers in a row.

For three of those four summers, I decided to write piano solo pieces, one for every staff member I worked with. These are those songs.

(there are also some fun, not-piano-solo bonuses that will pop up).

So if you like it, vote for it! I don't consider myself an accomplished musician, nor are these the best quality recordings in the world... but it was the best I could do.

Love my song Pat Gann! I was the first to "heart" it, but I was freaked out by the voice that creepily said "FIRST BLOOD!"

Songs have been sorted by album. Crappy cover art included.

ALSO, in case anyone was wondering, YES! The 2004 CD was recorded on a verrrrrry nice weighted keyboard, as opposed to mic-ed up baby grand (2001 to 2003 CDs). What we gain is a ton of clarity, what we lose is the subtlety of a REAL piano. Deal with it.

Great stuff, I'm jealous of your skills, also that you seem to be able to mike a piano so much better than me lol.
I'll hlod off hearts on the newest in case you have to delete it but hearting the next newest to start with.

Hey all! Just broke the halfway mark on *currently recorded* songs.

Good news is that I will be recording 25 more songs in the future. Which will put me at a little over 100 songs. And they'll all be here for your listening pleasure!

I'm sorry that they are short. They are musical ideas, and some of them aren't very well fleshed out. It's the best I can do. :)

in case anyone is wondering...I'm still at "less than halfway" in posting all the songs recorded. And after that, I'm going to record 25 more songs. And they're all going here. Again, I have no intention of letting anyone song become a "hit." Just want a place for all the music to reside...
