I was born and raised in Perth, West Australia. My folks, being from the USA, moved us back when I was a kid, though. I was fortunate to travel all over the world as a young boy. That's where I experienced the world of music. As well, my mother was/is a pianist and choral and orchestral conductor.
I've been working in/around the nashville music scene since I moved here in 1988. Yeah, that long. I started out producing and engineering while a student at Belmont University from 1988 to 1993. I also engaged in my first publishing deal as a songwriter during that time under a division of Sony music (at the time, a Tree Publishing Division). During that time, I had a few minor "cuts" here and there, but I was fortunate at that time to gain introductions to the production world. That's really where I got my professional start.
While I consider myself more of a "composer" than a "songwrite," I've had several successful commercial releases of my songs by major artists, including a #7 CHR single in 1997 or 1998. I can't remember exactly when.
These days, I have a fully capable recording studio in my home, and I work there most of the time. Surrounded by my family and friends in Franklin TN. Each morning, I wake up, get my cup of coffee, and head to the studio to do any number of things.
In addition to composing and recording my own music, I also produce artists like Merry Ellen Kirk and David Ask. As well, I compose and record music cue's and themes for film & tv on occasion. I also work quite often as a mix engineer, and many times as well just doing orchestration work, creating, conducting, arranging & recording orchestra.
After several years of collecting my own crazy world music ideas, I began to develop the concepts and pieces behind my first and only (thus far) release as an artist, "Worlds Apart." It's just a crazy collection of music that merges instruments, melodies, percussion and textures from all over the world. Each instrument has it's own part. Each chosen for that moment.
I'm also currently working with several other world music artists. Artists like Benny Prasad from India. I truly love working with people from all over the world.
Thanks for taking an interest in my creative works. It's truly an honor to have you listen to my music and read about me.
Cheers,
Pete
