In 2007 Philadelphia Slick took home first prize in the Philly Sound Clash, a competition sponsored by PhillyCarShare at World Cafe Live. Among the prizes was a $2000 check, and the band’s title track Culture Industry was featured on a compilation available in each PhillyCarShare vehicle. In 2006, Philadelphia Slick played the Emergenza Festival in Philadelphia with performances at The Fire, The Five Spot, and The North Star. The finals were held at the Fillmore at the TLA, where Noesis was named “Best Vocalist.” With a slew of achievements under their belt, Philadelphia Slick manages to maintain a philanthropic muscle, exercising their ability to impact the community and those in need. Using their infectious energy to raise the crowd and awareness simultaneously, the band has played fundraising events such as the Winged Lion Pride Poetry Festival benefiting the Germantown High School arts program in April 2006; a benefit for Darfur in July 2006; the South Street Green Festival for recycling awareness in September 2006; and the RealizePhiladelphia Festival for environmental action in July 2007.


This fall the band opened for Pharoahe Monch and Juggaknots at the Trocadero Theater, and headlined their own album release event at The North Star with Last Emperor and Nouveau Riche. Previously, the band has shared the stage with acts such as Talib Kweli, King Britt, Dave P, Josh Wink, Ursula Rucker, Reef the Lost Cauze, Subliminal Orphans, The BurnDown All-Stars, and Taylor McFerrin. Philadelphia Slick is currently accepting booking inquiries, and is beginning to schedule a Northeast U.S. spring tour. (-) collapse
