A classically trained pianist through his younger years, it wasn't until Preston discovered artists such as The Jackson 5, Allicia Keys, and The Temptations that he fell in love with the soulful/jazzy style music they delivered. He soon dropped the strict, standard teachings of classical piano, and instead opted for teaching himself the soulful sound that is such a huge part of his writing style today.
Picking up guitar, drums, and other instruments throughout the years, Preston began performing and writing with Tony Oller and The Horizon in the Houston area in 2007. They soon became well known throughout the Houston music scene, but disbanded after differences in direction.
However, Preston launched his own myspace, with the help of some demo recordings from members of The Horizon, in the fall of 2008. Through the next year, he won the Texas Tech University Singer-Songwriter Competition, performed at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and has shared the stage with acts such as Thee Armada, Windsor Drive, Sleeperstar,Otenki, Versecity. Needless to say, people slowly started to take notice.
Preston finally went to the studio to record his debut CD "Letters From Lubbock" in the fall of 2009. The album perfectly displays his unique style of songwriting, combining these soulful, jazzy styles he fell in love with at a young age, with current pop/rock sound similar to The Fray and Gavin Degraw.
He currently tours throughout Texas and is looking to go across state boundaries this upcoming summer to bring his music to a wider audience.
