Take classical piano, add rock and punk-inspired electric guitar, toss in some swanky drum sets and you get an idea of why Rachel James immediately made good in the blossoming Denver music scene.  With the guts and pipes to front true blue rock and roll jams, Rachel James is equally empowered in her haunting, piano-driven ballads.  Packing years of musical training, she fosters an ease and energy onstage that has audience members across the Mile High City jumping up and singing along. The riotous applause may be out of appreciation for a female rocker whose live performance is more Joplin than Lavigne.  It could be because Rachel James is quite simply a hot young piece of sass.  Or it might just be that when great lyrics, brilliant musicianship and live presence meet, listeners can’t help but show their gratitude.
