If you’d like to order a physical (CD) copy of “ASCII Cupcake”, you can do so right now on the ORDER page right here on cosmicity.com. It will ship out to you the very next business day. This is currently the only way to get a copy of the EP.

I am making some small adjustments to the tracks before I place them online for digital sale (remastering so that the songs sound as good as they can as MP3s etc.), so please be patient if this is your preferred method of music acquisition. After remastering, it will then take the various stores several weeks to get the songs into their catalogs and available for sale.

Sorry about the delay, but hopefully you’ll find it’s worth the short wait. And if you hate waiting, you can always order the CD right now! More very exciting news coming soon!

Pre-order your CD copy of the new Cosmicity EP “ASCII Cupcake” right now by clicking here! All pre-orders will ship out on release day, January 12, 2010.

If you prefer your music a digital download, though I’m not able to offer a pre-orer, this EP will be available on iTunes and other download services a few weeks after the CD release date.

I am planning on offering a CD/T-shirt combo in the near future, but the T-shirts won’t be ready in time for release day, so don’t worry. While the combo will eventually be priced at $20.00 for both items including shipping, if you pre-order the CD for $9.00, and then decide you want the T-shirt when it comes out, the cost will only be $11.00.

Yes, it’s finally done. The brand new 5 song Cosmicity EP “ASCII Cupcake” is complete, and it will be released on January 4th, 2010. And when I say released, I mean it. Professionally manufactured physical CDs and everything! Of course, you’ll still be able to get it on iTunes (etc.) too, but those sites can be slow to post things, so it might be a couple of weeks after that date before it shows up.

And now, I just want to take a moment here to say that... I’m proud. I’m really proud of this EP. It won’t be liked by everyone. The lyrics are sad. The production is intentionally stuck in the 80s. They’re mostly slow songs. But more than anything I’ve ever released, this EP has been incredibly cathartic for me. It captures exactly what it’s been like to find out your first and only child, your little baby girl, is sick... severely developmentally delayed... in pain constantly... and no one, no doctor anywhere, knows why. As we’ve gone through all of this, I’ve had my MacBook Pro by my side so I could try to play the emotions directly into these songs whenever there was a moment of time.

And I’ve succeeded with this EP. I know I have, because these songs still move me when I hear them. I know I have because when I play “Resignation” for my wife, she cries. Every time. I know I have because I’ve completely exhausted my skills, both as a father in search of medical help for his daughter, and as a musician trying to work it all out in his compositions. I’ve succeeded because writing these songs made me see more clearly, and in turn, helped us take different steps that have already lead to the beginning of help for Zoe (now almost 18 months old). And I’ve succeeded because, every time one of you buys a copy of this EP, it will help us with Zoe’s medical bills. I know that many of you would buy these songs no matter what, which is an incredible blessing in and of itself, but this time your purchase is particularly special. I truly can’t thank you enough.

Pre-orders for the physical CD will be accepted via a new page on this (soon to be revamped) website, so please check back in a week or two to make sure you snag your copy! The physical CD will be a little pricey compared to the download ($9.00 vs. $5.00), but due to the cost of physical CDs when printing in a relatively small volume, and shipping, I don’t think I can afford to make it any lower. If it’s too much for you, I completely understand. Your digital purchase will be just as appreciated.

All the songs are now written and all the vocals are recorded for the upcoming “ASCII Cupcake” EP. The final track listing is also now complete, and it looks like this:

“ASCII Cupcake”

1. Resignation
2. Still
3. Truth
4. Proxy
5. Respiration

Progress has been slower than I’d like, but as many of you know, finding time has been difficult as I cope with my now 1-year-old daughter’s difficult health and developmental issues. I primarily work on this EP on Sundays when it’s just Zoe and I at home together. Consequently, most of these songs take some or all of their lyrical cues from my experiences with her. Don’t worry, though. I haven’t written Cosmicity fans without children out of the listening experience. I believe you’ll find these songs are still all-access. :-)

And despite my inability to work on music everyday as I’m used to, I am still moving things along. I hope to have “ASCII Cupcake” released in October, and so far, things are still on-track.

Meanwhile, swing over to the MUSIC page here on cosmicity.com to check out (and download! - shh!) the remix I did of Depeche Mode’s new song “Peace”. If you have any difficulty downloading it, just drop me an e-mail (info@cosmicity.com) and I’ll be happy to e-mail it to you.

Because I’ve been unable to post any musical previews beyond the sample that plays on the cosmicity.com homepage, I leave you with the lyrics to the upcoming song “Truth”.

Truth

Watching you sleep - the dark makes me
accept the truth - so clear tonight: I've lost the fight. I've lost this fight
A lone tear comes, yes just the one
But in this drop, I clearly see - what will not be.

Routine keeps me busy trying
Something makes me keep on lying
just enough to get me through
I know I won't get through to you
But I can't help it. I can't help you.
What else could I do?

Like bad TV - this predictable scene
on TNT - suddenly stars me: somehow it's real. It's all too real.
A lone tear comes, yes just the one
But in this drop, there's only truth - I've seen the proof.

Futile motions keep me trying
twisted logic keeps me lying
just enough to get me through
I know I won't get through to you
But I can't help it - I can't help you.
What else could I do?

How did this happen? God knows I love you like I should.
How did this happen? I tried everything I could.

I stood and fought, somehow we lost
and now the cost, oh God, the cost. Why must we pay? Why must you pay?
A lone tear comes, yes just the one
But in this drop, the truth is shown - our chance is gone.

How did this happen? God knows I love you like I should.
How did this happen? I tried everything I could.

Yes, you read that right.  Cosmicity has remixed Depeche Mode's new song "Peace" for a remix contest.  Voting has started, and I could really use your help!

You can hear the Cosmicity remix here:

http://www.beatportal.com/remix/detail/peace-cosmicity-remix/

IF YOU LIKE IT, YOU HAVE TO CLICK "SPIN" TO VOTE FOR IT . That's what counts as a vote. To be able to "spin" it, rather annoyingly, you have to sign up for a Beatport account. I know it's a pain, but I'll very much appreciate your vote! (If you have any trouble signing up for an account, this link will take you to the main page to do it: http://www.beatportal.com/remix/contest/depeche-mode-remix-contest

Thanks again. I really appreciate your continued enthusiasm! And, should I lose the contest (as I suspect I might with SO many entries by pro remixers), your vote will definitely coax me into sending you a free MP3 of the track. (If by some miracle I won the contest, I wouldn't be able to send it to you because Depeche Mode would own it, but then you could buy it!)

Cosmicity's new release for 2010 is an EP called "ASCII Cupcake", available now at iTunes, amazon, or cosmicity.com.

Hey cosmicity,
So there's this girl on here, she's new and quite brilliant and I feel like her musical awesomeness needs to be spread to the world. Her name is Erin Bolton, all her songs are good, though Naked For Me Now is (in my opinion) the best. I figure you're a popular guy, do you want to be super awesome and check her stuff out? She's worth a listen, I promise. -megs

Create a listener account and join the Electro Freaks. We will show ASCII Cupcake some love. (What does "current sounding" have to do with it? Retro is the new modern.)

Longtime fan of yours (circa 1996). Cheers!

Hiya Mark, just popping in to second scrivenj's request to post Oxygenius.

To this day Escape Pod for Two is one of my favorite all-time albums.

Also just have to say, Regenerate = most underbumped/underrated song on your profile. Pure brilliance.

Hey Cosmicity, I'm doing a project for my Media Arts class and I was wondering if it would be alright with you if I used your remix of Color Theory's "If Not Now When". I love your music, and if you could get back to moe that would be fantastic. =)
