Brazilian music, Afro, reggae, jazz, funk, hip-hop… Nothing is off limits for this incredible artist simply known as Rommel.
Born in 1987 in São Luís, northern Brazil, Rommel has always been destined to be closely connected with music. Raised in a family of musicians, he grew up admiring his grandparents’, parent’s and sister’s talents. Precociously gifted, Rommel won his first music festival competition at the age of 14 and since then has participated in several other music festivals, mainly in his hometown of São Luís. He quickly turned his colleagues’ curiosity into respect as he continue performing brilliantly at the festivals. São Luís’s traditional Marista Festival saw the young song-writer sweep first place for four years in a row! At the same time, Rommel started singing in different bars and night clubs – a common path for aspiring musicians in Brazil. It was at this point that he had most of his informal musical formation, related to traditional MPB – acronym for Brazilian Popular Music. Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Lenine, Chico Cesar and the great masters of Bossa Nova were part of the constellation that guided the young artist.
