Scintillate 1994 - 2005
Scintillate hailed from Southend-on-Sea, Essex. In 1994 Dicky Moore formed the band with his school friends, Rob Clarke, Stuart Chapman and David Ferrett.
Their brand of “anti-depressant indie pop” took Southend by storm and this culminated in winning the Southend battle of the bands competition in 1997.
After winning "It's a Rockout" it all got louder.
Record companies started flirting, the gigs happened in the big city of London, and venues started filling, major publications started listing and interviewing. Things seemed hopeful.
Then in 1999 disaster struck. A romantic liaison turned affair meant that the band began to turn in on itself, and something had to go. Stuart left. The momentum ceased.
In 2001 Scintillate returned, with all members then living in London, and with Matt Walter filling the gap left by Stuart. More recordings and gigs came, and after recruiting Scott Hoodless to be the new fifth member of the band their first album was recorded, in 2004, “I’m an Animal, Get Me out of Here!” But the explosive and excitable pop sound was lost with their youth, and Scintillate finally disbanded in 2005.
Life goes on for each member of the band, and members of Scintillate can now be found in bands such as Scritti Politti, Scott’s new band, Big Dogg, Brute Chorus, Smokescreen, and more.
Here contains all of the surviving recordings of Scintillate. We hope you enjoy them.
