From their early days rehearsing and recording in a dusty, West Los Angeles guesthouse which also served as the residence of singer Jeremy Wilford and drummer Kelsey Drayton, this band has steadily grown into the name Shattered Atom, an allusion to the idea that much power can emerge from a small entity. The band is simple, unimposing, and strangely disarming. Like atoms that are shattered, their music explodes, creating a vast sound scape in which it is easy to get lost.

They are best described as an alt/pop band and despite their modest beginnings, their sound has landed them as one of the favorite up-and-coming bands on the scene.

Wilford and Drayton, along with Daniel Khim (guitar), and Troy Ross (bass) are Shattered Atom. Wilford, the frontman, who performs with unbridled passion and charisma draws comparisons to Coldplay’s Chris Martin and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers. Khim’s avant-garde guitar licks and unique approach to playing add an atmospheric quality that draws the listener in. A guitarist turned bass player, Ross sets the tone for each song as he ebbs and flows with Khim’s stylings. Meanwhile, Drayton keeps his finger on the collective pulse of the band and guides Shattered Atom as they create their hook filled tunes for appreciative fans everywhere.

Well traveled and highly educated, each band member holds a University degree in various subjects ranging from mathematics to sound engineering; percussion to philosophy. Singer Jeremy Wilford also had a stint in England playing in several bands while soaking up the local music scene. He also headlined the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, played live on British radio and performed in the Liverpool music festival. These individual accolades synergize them into a creative and intellectual force rarely found on the music scene today.

Shattered Atom released their debut EP entitled, “Why” in 2007. When the EP’s title track, an electro-pop ballad, thick with powerful lyrics and a subdued blend of rock instrumentation and pastel synth loops landed them a gig in front of 17,000 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the band knew they had struck a chord. Since then, the band has continued to move forward. Having two songs placed in the MTV show “Band in the Bubble” and playing to packed houses at famed L.A. clubs such as The House of Blues, The Derby, The Viper Room, The Knitting factory and more, has given the band the opportunity to hone their craft and increase their fan base.

Relentlessly, they continue to perform in and around Hollywood, most recently doing benefit shows for the Luekemia/Lymphoma Society as well as the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America. With a summer tour in the works and many opportunities on their plate, there’s no telling what the future holds for this ambitious group.
