Everytime someone does something that is as synthbased this, they compared to DM - that is like comparing all guitarbased popsongs to the beatles -a bit unfair, I think.
I think this song is much funkier than DM and I hear influences form several New wave outfits, such as The Smiths and Joy Division.
Is the distorted guitar a synth-sound or an actual distorted guitar? It sounds a bit "flat".
i think the track would benefit from a more "fuzzy" guitarsound ala Sonic youth or the raveonettes.
Just my humble opinion - hope you will take it as constructively as i meant it.
Gary, yes, I'm feeling the DM vibe here too. I was obsessed with DM for a couple of years in high school. OBSESSED! This has a similar sound but doesn't at all copy them. What is not to love! Bump bump.
