SPEAKERMUTE is a melodically influenced rock band that formed in 2006. It is currently based just outside Boston in the city of Lowell, Massachusetts. SPEAKERMUTE is a melodically influenced rock band that formed in 2006. It is currently based just outside Boston in the city of Lowell, Massachusetts. Though each member of the band - Bryan MacAuslan, Corey Blanchette, Jared Ambrose, and Danny Souza - can be relegated to there live instrument, (vocalist/guitarist, guitarist, bassist, drummer), all of them in fact play several instruments and sing. Originally nearly all accomplished horn players, SPEAKERMUTE is a group of musicians experiencing a complete role change. Incorporating melodic tendencies and tight rock and fusion drumming the group produces a sound they simply feel is thier own. In the summer of 2005, the band began as Bryan and Corey would once a week spend time writing and recording musical ideas. Even though some were hits and some were misses, they both felt that maybe they were on to something. Soon they would search for other musicians with the idea of taking their music outside of their Wilder St. apartment. Finally, that following winter, they would find a drummer in Danny Souza at the local watering hole. They adopted a new place for there music in “the sub” and would rehearse weekly developing original tunes. The following October, the group still short a bass player, would plan their first performance. Although the help of a friend would help them fill in the bass role for the night, they hoped their exposure could lead them to their missing piece. Luckily, they were right and within a week Jared Ambrose, a saxophonist and friend from college, would join the group on bass. Since their beginning, SPEAKERMUTE continues to write, grow, and accumulate audiences every time they perform. Between their passion for music and their undeniable energy the group functions like few out there. Whether it be their close friendship, their ability to musically understand each other, or their diverse sense of music and inspiration, the group continues to evolve each day. On their self-titled debut EP recording you can hear the blend of influences ranging from Radiohead to Warren Zevon to Death Cab for Cutie to Frank Zappa. Finally released in October of 2007, the EP easily captures them and their sound while showing what’s to come in a new album already in progress.
