This is an interesting article by the producer of Nirvana's "In Urtero". Skip to the bottom for a rundown of costs and who benefits from the artists' talent. Expletives abound so be warned if you ain't into swearing.

I am a big believer that musicians should get more of the money for what they produce than the labels. A friend of mine wrote a sweet essay that sums up a whole bunch of stuff that was dilly dallying around in my head. Check it out http://urbantramper.blogspot.com/2009/06/goal-is-not-only-better-living.html , and also check his tunes out http://www.thesixtyone.com/urbantramper , especially the southern hemisphere song, it's my new favourite, and doing quite well in little old New Zealand.

funny I was just talking with a friend about the music business and how disingenuous it is......I am forwarding him the negativeland "Albini" article .....

he is on the verge of giving up music.........which makes me sad

my take on music is.....I do it for myself and never care what anyone thinks....or if the critics cheer......it is cheaper than therapy

Xie xie sprinkle! Ni hao ma? I'd run out of <3's over the weekend... can now give the songs some love after getting my bank reset. Your music is helping soothe the soul after a rather awful morning. Keep up the stellar work and thanks or sharing with us on t61 =) Cheers, ~ling.
