The behnkes are your average married couple with a twist of eclectic Americana, a generous dollop of grit and soul, and a splash of Nashville inspired bluegrass roots. The Behnke’s spent 13 years in the music city among some of music’s finest writers and players and have recently returned home to the great Northwest to continue honing their craft.

The couple worked primarily on solo projects until attempting a commercial country co-writing session in 2007. The session was a success and the two have been writing together ever since.

The behnkes have plenty of fodder for songwriting material given their penchant for travel and adventure. In 2000, the couple sold all their belongings and sailed the Bahamas for a year: snorkeling, playing music, and enjoying the carefree life of the pseudo-retired. Prior to this adventure the couple spent three summers on Guam where Matt dove for silver bullion on a 17th Century Spanish Galleon.

The couple took a curveball in 2001 when Jenny was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She survived a year of chemotherapy with Matt standing faithfully and courageously at her side. Their songs reflect a playful wonder for what’s to come, hopefulness in the face of utter devastation, and the unyielding bond they share with each other.

The behnkes are actively promoting their songs for movies, television, and cuts with major artists as well as planning a local tour with the new record this year. Their overarching musical goals remain simple: keep getting better, keep having fun, and stay inspired.
